Feedstuffs

South Dakota is home to some of the largest varieties of feedstuffs of any state in the country. The state ranks in the top ten in production of corn for grain, sorghum for grain, soybean production, wheat production, oat production, flaxseed production, sunflower seed production, and proso millet production. With the low basis in South Dakota, grain prices are some of the lowest in the nation, which make ration formulations in South Dakota some of the most economical, with plenty of options available.

South Dakota is also 4th in the nation in ethanol production, creating one of the largest available supplies of distillers grains in the world. Distillers grains have proven to be a great resource for ruminant nutritionists providing an excellent source of protein, energy, and fats for diet formulation. The swine and poultry industries have started using distillers grains in their diets as a cost competitive nutrient source.

With our high availability and diversity of feedstuffs in combination with low costs, South Dakota offers some of the most economical feed to gain ratios in the country.
